How are you connected to Camp Mujigae?
As a former camper, it is an amazing feeling to now be bringing my own children to Camp MJG. I have lifelong friendships that were made at camp and the shared experiences have shaped my identity and perception. Camp MJG was vital in teaching Korean Culture to adoptees and created a network of friends in which we felt like the majority (at least for a few days a year). The unspoken bond of being adopted and Korean showed us that we had more similarities than differences.

Why would you like to serve as a Board of Director?
I have been involved with camp since the late 80s, as a camper, CIT, counselor, and have been serving on the planning committee and as a current board of directors member. Camp meant a lot to me growing up and I want to continue to pay it forward for the next generation of adoptive families.

What skills/experience do you have that would contribute to managing a thriving and successful organization?
I have been volunteering at a high level to assist with the planning and operations of camp for over a decade. I have done a little of everything and have stepped in multiple roles when needed.

SK grew up in Averill Park and now lives in Philadelphia with her husband, Jason, two daughters, a son, and two dogs. She started going to Camp MuJiGae in 1988. She loves Camp MuJiGae because it's the only time of the year we [korean adoptees] are in the majority! During her downtime, she enjoys dance, music and plants! Her favorite Korean food is Doenjang Jiigae. Something you might not know about SK is she is a professional dancer and educator for many years and recently switched gears to be a scientist!

How are you connected to Camp Mujigae?
My son was adopted from South Korea when he was 9 months old. He is now 10 years old. Camp Mujigae is something we look forward to every year. The friends that we have made at camp and the celebration of his heritage are priceless.

Why would you like to serve as a Board of Director?
I volunteer at camp in the kitchen and would love to assist in other ways during the year in order to see the camp grow and flourish for all the families involved.

What skills/experience do you have that would contribute to managing a thriving and successful organization?
As a care manager, I believe I have strong communication skills, as I advocate for my clients with doctors, families and a variety of staff at facilities on a daily basis. As a nurse I have a great deal of empathy and patience. I am detail oriented and am able to problem solve and resolve conflicts effectively. I also volunteer at my church teaching religious education to the children during mass.

How are you connected to Camp Mujigae?
I am a Korean Adoptee and the father of a Korean Adoptee

Why would you like to serve as a Board of Director?
I would like to become a board member for Camp Mujigae for several reasons. Being a Korean adoptee who grew up with no familiarity or connection or contact to my heritage I decided to make sure my children knew as much about Korea and their heritage as possible. I think I am uniquely suited to become a board member due to not only being an adoptee but being the father of a Korean Adoptee. I am familiar with the current adoptive process and would like to share that knowledge. I am also one of the few adoptees who have found their birth mother and met them. I have travelled to Korea 4 times within the past 5 years and stay current on events as well as the changing culture in Korea.

What skills/experience do you have that would contribute to managing a thriving and successful organization?
Leadership skills- I have been a police officer for approx. 24 years and over the course of that time I have risen through the ranks to the rank of sergeant. I was a patrol supervisor, narcotics unit supervisor, K9 unit supervisor, street crimes unit supervisor, crime scene unit supervisor and I was the supervisor of the Hostage Negotiation Unit. Volunteer experience- I have volunteered at Camp Mujigae for the past 3 years. I have been or am currently a volunteer coaching little league, CYO basketball and Football. I am an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 70 of the Boy Scouts of America.
